It’s 5 o’ clock in the morning, and am waiting for the wake-up call. But, oh-snap I just realized I am back home in what seemed to me the best getaway I have had in a while, although I have been lately frequenting on Getaways!
Upon reaching the hotel, the commissionaire opens the door and is ready to welcome us,and the valet is at your door inquiring whether you need valet services or not. We say it is okay as we would like to use the underground parking. Upon inquiring if its okay to get our room key and park the car ourselves, they are quick to reply with a smile, and such positivism that you know your stay is off to a good start.
At the reception, we are asked for our documents by Tushar. He is swift with what needs to be done, and before I know it’s all sorted. I am quickly taken to my room by Ali, and someone assists my husband in making sure its all okay with the car parking. I reach my room, Ali puts my baggage shows me around the room and before I even sit, Mr. M is already at the door saying the parking was done – all very easy and convenient.
If business is your prime motive, it is guaranteed there is no better hotel in Doha. It might not look very big from the outside. But do not mistake that for the service inside. Everything is at your convenience – best access to all the facilities that you need. You don’t have to do a lot of walking to reach the spa or the pool or any of the restaurants for that matter. Everything is so closely located, and everyone is so ready to guide you. There is no getting lost in an array of corridors anywhere. It is spacious, relaxing, and the ideal business/weekend relaxation getaway destination.Having settled into the room, we step out for dinner at Choices. It’s a Thursday, and it’s seafood night at Choices – and as the name says it’s all about choices. There is something for everyone. The colorful setup is just such a treat to the eyes. Every dish is so artfully set even for a buffet.
More on the food has been written on my review of Choices.
After dinner is definitely bed time. So I headed back to the room, and on my bed was a small menu card to fill in my choices for breakfast. I opted for the Arabic breakfast, and Mr. M opted for the continental breakfast. The servings are huge enough for a family of 4 I believe unless obviously you slept without dinner last night and are feeling voraciously hungry. Otherwise, am sure the meal would suffice for 2.
Moving on, I spent the rest of the day trying to study more about the Hotel as that’s something I often love to do: finding creativity in every corner that I can!
When I went to The Cellar to try their Tapas Brunch I was still pretty much full. However, since Chef Nicolas did a splendid job of making an awesome Mussels dish for me during my last visit, I had to definitely eat.
While I walked around the Hotel, it was so heart warming how the staffs talked to each other, they felt more like family. They embraced their guests like family too. After my brunch, it was spa time. The team there did a great job. More on the Bodylines experience here.
After what seemed like a very short time which is always the case when you are pampered, I was back to the room. Then wanting to see even more of the hotel, Sarah gave me a tour of the restaurants with a lot of laughter, and insights about her journey as a hospitality staff. Before long, I knew in her I had found a good friend. Being fairly new to the hotel, she asked her colleague Tarek to join us. It was more than just relaxation, and business I had during my stay. I made new friends, some of whom I am sure would stay in my memory, and life for the years to come. We had coffee at The Sky Lounge. I had Cappuccino, and Mr. M opted for Turkish Coffee which he said was good.
After lots of stories, and laughter, we headed to Al Nafourah – where Chef Abdel Aziz was waiting for us with his culinary expertise. The dinner at Al Nafourah was splendid- Hands down the best Lebanese Food in doha.
After dinner, it was time to retire for the day – full and tired, it was not long before we drifted away to sleep.
Morning wake-up call we did our prayers, and few minutes later we had our newspapers at our door.
We opted for buffet breakfast at Choices. The Executive Chef personally gave a tour of the kitchen, and he said there was more to come. And for sure, I knew it would be worth the wait to return, and see what he has in mind because the new change that is happening all over Rotana is statement-making.
After breakfast which was sumptuous, and delicious, we decided to head to the pool. Since, the one at Oryx Rotana was under renovation, we had a trip arranged to the pool at City Centre Rotana.
City Centre Rotana being their sister property is just breathtaking. After spending some time at the pool, we were back to the hotel. Sarah gave me a tour of the rooms, and then my staycation at the hotel was almost over. Headed back to the room to pack my things, and room service rings the door bell with a platter of fruits. That just reminded me how much fruits I needed to include into my meals. It was something I used to do, but haven’t been doing a lot of lately.
The time to part came quickly! Before I left, I had made up my mind to definitely come back to the hotel again because for sure I left a part of my heart in that space. The memories that Oryx Rotana left me with is one of the best I have experienced.
Before I retire from this blog writeup, I would like to thank Chef Arnold from Choices for showing me how passionate a chef can be about cooking.
Chef Nicolas who is always ready to welcome you with a smile and very humble demeanor. Mohamed at Choices who is always there to greet you with a smile.
Special thanks to Tarek for all the insights and the stories, and definitely a lot of thanks to Sarah who was more than a great friend during the stay.
Thank you to Oryx Rotana for arranging something so beautiful, and making me look forward to what you have in your future journey. I didn’t have enough and will definitely be back for more!
